HanziPanda ("we", "our", "the app") helps people learn to read and write Chinese characters. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We built HanziPanda to keep your learning progress on your own device — there is no account, no sign-in, and no server of ours that stores your personal data.
HanziPanda saves the following locally on your device (using standard
app storage — SharedPreferences on Android,
NSUserDefaults on iOS), so your progress survives closing and
reopening the app:
None of the above is transmitted to us. If you uninstall the app, this data is deleted from your device. We have no way to recover it, because we never had a copy of it.
Free use of HanziPanda is supported by ads served through Google AdMob (banner, interstitial, and optional rewarded-video ads to refill hearts). AdMob may collect and process:
On iOS, HanziPanda asks for App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission the first time you open the app. If you allow tracking, ads may be personalized using your device's advertising identifier (IDFA); if you decline, HanziPanda still shows ads, just non-personalized/contextual ones instead. You can change this choice at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. On Android, ad personalization follows your Google Play system-level ad settings. You can review or reset your advertising identifier and ad personalization choices in your device's system settings at any time. If you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, HanziPanda uses Google's User Messaging Platform to request your consent for ads before any personalized-ad-related processing occurs.
HanziPanda Premium is purchased entirely through Apple's App Store or Google Play billing. We receive confirmation that a purchase succeeded so we can unlock Premium features on your device — we never receive your card number, billing address, or other payment details; those are handled entirely by Apple/Google under their own privacy policies.
If you turn on daily streak reminders, the reminder is scheduled locally on your device using the operating system's notification scheduler. No data about this leaves your device, and no server of ours is involved in delivering it.
Because your progress is stored only on your device, you're always in control of it: clearing the app's storage or uninstalling HanziPanda permanently deletes it. For data AdMob or the app stores process on their own systems (see above), refer to Google's, Apple's, and Google Play's own data-retention and account-deletion tools.
HanziPanda is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the address below and we will address it.
If we change what data HanziPanda collects or how it's used, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's release notes.
